HON. OLOWO ROTIMI GRADUATES IN STYLE AT THE 2014/2015 CONVOCATION CEREMONY OF UNILAG




It was indeed a day of joy, fun, laughter and lots of merriment as Hon. OlowoRotimi graduates in style with a Master’s Degree in Transportation Planning & Management at the 2014/2015 Convocation ceremony of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) held on 29th April, 2015.

The 2014/2015 Convocation ceremony of the University of Lagos for the award of Degrees, Higher Degrees, Diplomas, Certificates and prizes was held from April 27 to April 29.

Hon. OlowoRotimi who bagged a Masters’ in Transportation Planning & Management was delighted as family, friends, colleagues and well-wishers trooped out in numbers to celebrate another remarkable success of the law-maker.

The Lagos lawmaker’s delectable & soft-hearted wife, Mrs. AtinukeOlowo was conspicuously present at the event to give all necessary support to her darling husband as she strike several congratulatory poses with him.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Rahaman Bello while speaking at the event emphasized the institution’s resolve to produce quality graduates capable of competing favorably with their counterparts abroad.

125 of 10,600 graduating students, 2014 finished in First-Class Division as 1,664 of the students bagged the Second Class Upper Division while 2,827 were in the Lower Division.

Mr. KoredeAkinpelu of the Department of Chemical Engineering is the best graduating student with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.96 while Mr. Sedan Shittu of the Dept. of Finance is the Second best graduating student with a CGPA of 4.91.

Honorary degrees of Professor Emeritus were conferred on Professors of the University as well as three eminent Nigerians for their outstanding contribution to the development of education in Nigeria. Emeriti Profs of the University are Prof. OlayideAbass, Prof. Francis Fajemirokun and Prof. Soya Sofila. The other eminent Nigerians include the former Minister of Defence Lt-Gen. TheophillusDanjuma, renowned technocrat, Mr. GamalielOnosode and the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye.

Hon. Olowo hosted his colleagues (course-mates), friends and well-wishers to convocation after party at the AP Club, Apapa-Road, Lagos.

The eloquent lawmaker anchored the event introducing some of his colleagues while inviting them to the podium for brief speeches.

Prof. Samuel Iyiola Oni of the department of Transportation, UNILAG who is obviously loved by all was given a grand welcome to the event by his out-going students who described him as a mentor, confidant and pillar of their collective success.

“To Hon. Olowo; you have been a very very wonderful human being. You have been an extra-ordinary politician. You are an astute politician; a philanthropist. You are a very very loving and kind personality. Not too many politicians are as loving and kind as you.

“I want to thank you for coordinating the class and making it a success that it is today. I feel honored to have had you in my class and for those of you that doesn’t know Hon. Olowo too well; he is a politician whose hunger for wisdom and knowledge is endless.

"I pray that God continue to guide you in your future endeavor especially your political career and as you climb to greater height, may you never fall.” his words


While delivering a speech at the event, Prof. Oni described Hon. Olowo as a wonderful human being, astute politician and a philanthropist whose influence has helped in making the class a huge success.

Hon. OlowoRotimi contested in the last Lagos House of Assembly elections under the APC defeating his closest rival Hon. BabatundeOladejo of the PDP with a convincing margin of 6,353 votes polling 18,419 votes against Oladejo’s 12,066 votes.

He (Olowo) is loved by majority of the people of his constituency owing to the history of his outstanding performances and his people oriented projects across the constituency.

Some members of his constituency, Shomolu Constituency 1 refer to him as the face of APC in Shomolu.
